Each year the Miami Film Festival offers our community a tremendous opportunity to take in movies that would rarely make it to the big box theaters. More proof that Miami is a very culturally rich town contrary to some perceptions. This year’s goes from March 9th-18th. I am heavily inspired by films. When ‘The Godfather’ was being made Francis Ford Coppola had to deal with a ton of doubt from the Hollywood studio bosses of the day. He certainly won the war on his cinematic vision! I created a meal around the movie for a film festival held in Orlando a few years ago. Guests seated in our private dining room there watched clips I selected from studying the movie many times and then we served a course influenced by that scene. I avoided the heavily expected, ‘drop the gun, grab the cannoli’ line and did ‘Moe Green’s Smoked Fish Dip’, ‘Peter Clemenza’s Mighty Meatballs’, ‘Salad Apollonia… a type more Greek than Italian’ and ‘Solazzo’s ‘Best in the City’ Veal’. It was great fun. This year I hope to attend a movie to stir my soul in such a masterful way again.
